During a commemoration for Japanese soldiers fighting in the US Army during World War II, Mr. Miyagi meets the widow of his commanding officer. He gets to know her granddaughter Julie, an angry teenager who is still feeling the pain of losing both her parents in an accident and is having problems with her grandmother and her fellow pupils. Mr. Miyagi decides to teach her karate to get her through her pain and issues and back on the right path.
In honour of the Japanese-American veteran troopers who bravely fought during WWII, the sage Karate master, Mr Miyagi, travels to Boston to attend a ceremony. There, in this unlikely place, Miyagi is introduced to the 17-year-old troubled teenage girl, Julie, who is constantly angry at the world and her abusive schoolmates, still unable to come to terms with the untimely loss of her parents. But before long, Julie will become Miyagi's new pupil, hopeful of teaching the rebellious youngster the true meaning of karate and self-esteem, through the knowledge of self-defense and respect for all living things. Could Julie be the next Karate Kid?
maybe you may not like this movie due to the lack of wonderful casting. but good casting doesn&#39;t mean that a movie is good. it only win in fame but not the audience/spectators. <br/><br/>good casting isn&#39;t the important element of a good movie. good work from actors and good story plot is.<br/><br/>== this movie may not have popular cast but only a novice (Hilary Swank) but she can play it well. JuLiE PiErCe is the best when I see how great Hilary play there…yeah pretty face, strong skills of karate…<br/><br/>remember that a good storyline is important than the casting.<br/><br/>A good storyline, no matter if the actors are famous or popular or not…if the director finds the right ppl to act, no matter who, the movie can be winning…<br/><br/>so this is the result of &quot;good storyline, find the right one to play julie pierce&quot;!<br/><br/>see how wonder hilary swank is…!<br/><br/>better than any other movie which only win in casting but not a good storyline!
There are two ways to view the next karate kid. You can compare it to the previous 3 karate kid films, or you can take it on it&#39;s own. The movie is not as horrible as everyone tries to say it is, but it does not live up to the quality of cinema that the other ones achieved. Hilary Swank&#39;s performance is pretty good, especially considering how young and inexperienced she was back then. Pat Moriati is of course great here, there was no doubt or debate about whether he would be good or not. The plot is so so, its not completely original, but it doesn&#39;t really fall completely flat. The plot is sweet/cute at times, and is empowering and uplifting at other times. If you are looking for a kinda clichéd, but pretty well acted, borderline sub par fourth installment, then this movie just may be for you. 5/10.
The Next Karate Kid is harmless as children's entertainment, but for 104 very long minutes, there isn't a recognizable human being in sight.
